Excellent condition.
Flanked by the Knights of Columbus (Archbishop McCarthy Assembly), in their suits and tophats, Archbishop Berry (wearing tall mitre) pauses amidst a group of priests on the steps of Saint Mary's Cathedral Basilica where he is likely has been installed as Archbishop of Halifax. The young clergyman (far left) is (future Archbishop) James Hayes (Arts class of 1943); next to him is Father Lynch (SMU President 1950-1956). Second from the right is the Right Rev. William Burns (in black cap, hands in prayer, Arts class of 1923). Burns enjoyed a distinguished career as Vicar General to the diocese's Bishop (exercising executive powers) from ca. 1942-1959. He also served on Saint Mary's Senate and as Vice Chancellor ca. 1951-1959. As of 2017, it is not possible to pinpoint these dates more accurately.
See pg. 8 of the 1952 Collegian yearbook for a photo of Burns. Identification of the Knights of Columbus credited to alumnus Ervin J. Doak (Commerce class of 1962).
