The young clergyman (far left) is (future Archbishop) James Hayes (Arts class of 1943); next to him is Father Lynch (SMU President 1950-1956). Second from the right is the Right Rev. William Burns (in black cap, hands in prayer, Arts class of 1923). Burns enjoyed a distinguished career as Vicar General to the diocese's Bishop (exercising executive powers) from ca. 1942-1959. He also served on Saint Mary's Senate and as Vice Chancellor ca. 1951-1959. As of 2017, it is not possible to pinpoint these dates more accurately.
